Shay Lavie holds the position of Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Law. His primary research areas are civil procedure, class actions, and law & economics, with a specific focus on the strategic dynamics inherent in legal procedures. Shay's academic work integrates diverse methodologies, including doctrinal analysis, game theoretical tools, and quantitative methods. His work was awarded competitive grants (such as the Israeli Science Foundation) and has been published in leading peer-reviewed and student-edited journals, such as the Journal of Legal Analysis, Journal of Legal Studies, Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization, PLoS ONE, Notre Dame Law Review, and George Washington Law Review. He has also contributed to leading Israeli law journals, focusing on class actions within the Israeli legal framework.

Shay teaches courses related to civil procedure, law and economics, and class actions. Concurrently, he holds the position of academic advisor for the Class Action Clinic. Before joining Tel Aviv University, Shay earned an S.J.D. degree from Harvard Law School (2012), an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School (2007, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar), and served as a law clerk to the (then) Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court, Aharon Barak.
